DIY shops

There are several good DIY stores in Limoges, Leroy Merlin, Castorama and Bricoman to name but three. I have found that if you go to Limoges to buy materials for any project, it is well worth going to at least two shops such as Leroy Merlin and Castorama to compare the prices. Prices can vary on the same item dramatically - I recently had to buy a kitchen tap and the price differed by 25€ for a very similar tap between two shops.

Places to Visit

Our nearest city is Limoges. Steeped in history, and known for its world famous porcelain industry, Limoges is full of shops and restaurants. Visit the new Family Village and super new retail park on the northern edge of the city. Saint Junien is a lovely market town, with a fantastic Saturday market with loads of local food producers stretching down into the centre of the town. The animal market is held on the 3rd Saturday of each month, this is where we bought our chickens. It is a good market to take visitors too, as there is plenty of parking, it is easy to walk around and it shows a French market at its best - you are guaranteed to come away with something wonderful for lunch!

“La Vallee des Singes” (Monkey Valley) - An animal park with 350 monkeys and primates. This is a fantastic day out for all the family. Feeding times are advertised and as all the animals are free to roam around, it is wonderful to see them being fed only a metre or so from you. More dangerous primates like gorillas and chimpanzees are housed on their own islands.
